Jazz Technical Services: Overtime Update

Jazz Technical Services: Overtime Update

June 6, 2008 at 12:00 AM

On Wednesday, June 4th a meeting was held with Arbitrator M. Teplitsky to discuss the current status of the Heavy Maintenance situation.

The Company requested that Double Time for All Overtime cease immediately, explaining that all aircraft that were contracted out were completed and back in service. They also showed that they were complying with the hiring requirements imposed upon them.

The Union contended that one aircraft, 716, had yet to have its In-flight Entertainment System (IFE), installed by a third party. Until such time as the installation was completed, the Double Time rule should remain in effect.

Mr. Teplitsky ruled that this was not a valid argument. The actual Heavy Check for aircraft 716 was not going to be sub-contracted, only the installation of the IFE, (which, in a previous order he had already ruled could be sub-contracted).

The Union was able to convince the arbitrator to force the Company to continue the Double Time rule until June 15, 2008, in keeping with the pay period scheduling. In doing so, Teplitsky ordered the immediate end to the Guaranteed Overtime positions for the Line Bases.
