District 612 members at Jazz STOC in Vancouver won this year’s battle against bullying, by participating in the fourth annual Pink Shirt Day.

Local 2002 members were invited to join workplaces and schools across the country to take a stand against bullying by wearing pink on February 23, 2011.

Human Rights Coordinator Cate Moss chose the winning workplace.  “This was all about getting creative and taking a stand for things you believe strongly in. Members in Jazz STOC are true activists,” she commented.

Our biggest ally in combating bullying in our workplace starts with ourselves.  We can make our workplace a bully-free zone by treating everyone with courtesy, listening to what they have to say and by not criticizing or judging people.

Jazz employees in YVR STOC as well as management staff for Air Canada donned pink shirts, scarves and ties as they participated with pink grapefruit juice, pink cookies and pink candies. STOC agent Rosemarie Bannerman was instrumental in educating and organizing Pink Shirt Day in her workplace and handed out pink face stickers and pink pens.

Congratulations to Rosemarie, District Chairperson Christine Bower and all of the members and management in YVR STOC who showed that it is the little things, the everyday acts of civility that create peace in our workplaces. In appreciation for their participation, Cate will be visiting the Vancouver Jazz STOC office soon with treats, prizes and more.
