Jazz CSA/ACS membership face harsh reality

Jazz CSA/ACS membership face harsh reality

February 8, 2013 at 12:38 PM

As previously stated your bargaining team is committed to reporting all aspects of the bargaining process.

We have now come to an impasse with the company; your CAW bargaining committee feel that the membership needs to understand Jazz’s monetary proposals.

The company has made it clear that the future of Jazz does not include below the wing work as it has been deemed non-profitable.

Therefore, the company is demanding the following:

• The contracting out of all grooming operations at all locations.

• The contracting out of all towing operations in YYZ-YYC-YVR

• The cross utilization of ramp and cabin services in YYJ-YCD-YXU

They are also looking efficiencies above the wing:

• To start they are closing the following eight bases, YYD-YXH-ZBF-YZP-YZR-YYY-YPR-YQL, replacing Jazz agents with a third party, because they are also deemed non-profitable. Air Canada is looking at replacing other bases with Sky Regional.

• Cross utilization of employees in the DCC and Payload in YHZ.

• They have also proposed a "B” scale slightly above minimum wages that will directly affect anyone who is currently on the 3rd year of our current scale, who would then transition to the new scale with no loyalty premium attached.

• Cargo premiums (for doing cargo) will be eliminated from the ramp in YUY-YVO-YBG as customer service agents will be accepting cargo.

• This so far has translated into approximately 300 members who will loose their jobs.

Not since CCAA round of bargaining in 2003, has Jazz been this aggressive in demanding concessions. We implore members who are reading this bulletin to make it known to those who do not normally engage in this process, to those who turn a blind eye because they think it will not happen to them;  this is the new reality that we are facing.

It is imperative for all members to follow the bargaining news as we move forward.

The membership has worked extremely hard to make Jazz the successful organization that it is today: profitable, award winning and according to Canadian Business World, one of the top companies to work for!

Your bargaining committee is exploring different strategies and will notify the membership as to the course of action we will be taking in order to obtain a FAIR DEAL!

In solidarity,

Your Jazz CSA/ACS bargaining committee:
