Jazz Technical Services: Important notice regarding staff reductions

Jazz Technical Services: Important notice regarding staff reductions

MEMERSHIP UPDATE

The Union has been requesting that the Company explore all options to possibly mitigate the impending staff reductions. One of the options that the CAW suggested was that of a Special Leave Of Absence (SLOA). This is where an individual could take an extended leave from the workplace without pay for a period beyond what is allowed in the Collective Agreement, retain seniority and have an agreed upon return to work date.

The Company has responded and - unfortunately - is not willing to consider the SLOA as they claim this is a "Permanent" staff reduction. However the Company has agreed to explore Voluntary Leave of Absence as per the Collective Agreement. Furthermore they have agreed to explore Voluntary "Out of Seniority Order Layoff".

If there are any Members wishing to take an "Out of Seniority Order Layoff" they need to communicate this to their Local Union Officer as quickly as possible. It is imperative for those individuals wishing to voluntarily take a layoff that the Company has no intention of issuing a recall for the foreseeable future.

The Union and the Company will have to mutually agree to the above mentioned terms and conditions and a Letter of Understanding (LOU) will have to be drafted to cover the change to the Collective Agreement Language in order to accommodate such terms.
