Bargaining Committee to meet with Management on January 15

Jazz Management has once again notified the CAW that the current state of the heavy docklines is unacceptable and there is an ongoing need to sub-contract our work.

This time Jazz management has added the requirement to in-source contractors. In-sourcing means management wants to bring contract workers into Jazz maintenance facilities to do our work because they claim it cannot be completed by CAW members. Specifically, Jazz management wants to bring in outside workers to the structures category at the London heavy maintenance base. Along with in-sourcing, there is another request to outsource a number of heavy checks on aircraft.

Today your Bargaining Committee and District Chairpersons held a conference call with respect to management’s desire to outsource our work. During the call your CAW leadership decided a meeting between the Bargaining Committee and Jazz senior management must take place. This meeting has been scheduled for January 15, 2008. Failure to reach a resolution that is satisfactory to the CAW and our members will see the issue put forward to Chief Arbitrator Martin Teplitsky.
