In accordance with Article 4, Section 14 of the CAW Local 2002 bylaws, this serves as notice for the upcoming Bargaining Committee election for Jazz Technical Services.
Nominations will be posted in the work places and will be open to all members in good standing. There will be a Tech 1 Bargaining Representative from every district, (six total), plus one from the Tech 2 membership. You must be a member from Tech 2 to run for the Tech 2 position, and Tech 1 to run for the Tech 1 positions.
These elections will be conducted by workplace balloting. Balloting dates and times will be posted locally. There will not be any advanced, absentee or proxy voting allowed. Tech 1 members will vote on the Tech 1 position, and Tech 2 members will vote on the Tech 2 position. Please note that there will be only one vote per member.
Article 4.14.02 of CAW Local 2002 Bylaws states:
Where a bargaining unit encompasses membership in more than one Region, each Region shall have a representative on the Bargaining Committee. The election of the Bargaining Committee shall be held by region, nine (9) months prior, if possible, to the expiry of the current collective agreement. The term of office shall not exceed three years.
The Jazz Technical Services agreement expires July 1, 2012. Therefore to make it possible for a Bargaining Committee to be elected 9 months prior to the expiry, the term for this next Bargaining Committee has been shortened to seventeen (17) months. The actual term will be from May 1, 2010 to September 30, 2011. October 1, 2011 will be nine months prior to the expiry of the contract and a new Committee will be elected to bargain the next Collective Agreement at that time.
Bargaining Committee members shall assume office the first day of the month following their election. The election process will be completed by the end of April to allow the May 1, 2010 start date of this next committee.
