Members of the Union in Politics Committee met in Toronto on July, 6 to discuss plans for a summer lobby session while MP’s are in their ridings.

A Federal election seems likely this fall and in order to roll out the next phase of the Fly it Right campaign, the Committee held an "Effective Lobbying" training session with members from all regions.

The "Fly it Right" campaign mandates the following:

  • calls on the Federal Government to block the wind-up of investment holding company ACE Aviation Holdings Inc.
  • calls on the Federal Government to re-establish smart regulations on airline capacity and to take an ownership role in Air Canada.
  • stop further payments to former Robert Milton (former Chairman, President and CEO of Air Canada
  • establish a federal pension guarantee fund to back up pension promises,

The Effective Lobbying session is geared towards engaging officers and mobilizing members to continue the next phase of the campaign which involves lobbying of regional Members of Parliament.

Attending the session were Darryl Draeger (Chairperson), Pam Taylor, Tim Cheung, Rita Reid, Manon Camire, Patty Southey and Cheryl Robinson (Liaison).

Committee members will assist in delivering lobbying training to officers over the next week. This training will inform and enable members to lobby MPs and assist other members to lobby as well.

All members are encouraged to participate in lobbying their Member of Parliament on the issues of the “Fly it Right” campaign. Our success in reaching as many MP’s with our message will be crucial in working towards a more sustainable airline industry.
