Vacancy: Health and Safety Coordinator for Jazz Line Maintenance

The Jazz Line Maintenance Health and Safety Coordinator position is an appointed 3-year term in accordance with the Unifor Local 2002 Bylaws.


In accordance with the Unifor National Constitution and Unifor Local 2002 bylaw and the Jazz Line Maintenance Collective Agreement, the position of a required National Health & Safety Coordinator is being posted. The duties and responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Administer the affairs of the Local Union which are related to safety and health issues

  • Assisting /Training the District Chairpersons in establishing Health and Safety committees

  • Assist with the development and delivery of related training programs on behalf of the Local

  • Conducting educational seminars and workshops for the membership

  • Assisting in the investigation of workplace accidents and unsafe or unhealthy working conditions

  • Deal with WCB-related issues in the workplace

  • Meet with all units' employers with an aim to establishing a consistent and effective workplace Health & Safety policy in consultation with the Local

  • Preparing information materials for distribution to the membership and other functions as may be determined by the President of the Executive Board

  • To monitor compliance with all legal requirements on behalf of the Local

  • Must be active in the community and trade union movement in the area of Health and Safety

  • Other responsibilities as directed by the National Unifor Health & Safety Director, President and/or the Executive Board of the Local

  • Assisting/coaching the Workplace Health and Safety representatives in their roles and duties as Health and Health committee members or representatives

  • Participate actively on the Policy Committee
      

As per 4.13.01 of the Unifor Local 2002 Bylaws, "Local 2002 Health and Safety Coordinator(s) shall be appointed by the President of the National Union, Unifor with the recommendation of the Local Union's Executive Board."

Please note: This is not a full-time position. Time off will be granted as required for this position as outlined in the Collective Agreement. The term of office starts on January 1, 2024.
