As the holiday season approaches, it is important to enjoy time with family and friends, but it is also a time to reflect on the past year and our ongoing economic recovery.

It has been a demanding year for our Local and our members; many of whom have recently returned to a more “normal” pre-pandemic work schedule. The focus of the Executive Board has been and continues to be, meeting with the leadership and members of this great Local. This has meant more travel, but it has been imperative in re-building Local 2002 and engaging with members.

COVID-19 continues to have a tremendous impact on all workers, but your resilience and strength have shown that with solidarity, we will get through this together. The aviation sector continues to rebound and build momentum, and with it has come new opportunities and growth. Already this year, Local 2002 has welcomed new members from three new units: Aéroport de Québec from Québec City, Jean Lesage International Airport; United Ramp Incorporated which is a ground service provider based out of Nanaimo, British Columbia; and the most recent addition is Skylink Express, which consists of pilots based out of Hamilton, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Mirabel airports.

There is no doubt that we have all faced challenges in 2020 and 2021; layoffs, lockdowns, remote working, a lack of social contact with our loved ones, and much more.

As we look forward to the year ahead with increased positivity that we will collectively overcome COVID-19, Unifor Local 2002 will continue to be there for members; to give you and your family a better tomorrow. We also look forward to welcoming you back to face-to-face meetings, conferences, and education courses, when it is safe to do so.

On behalf of the Local 2002 Executive Board and Staff, I would like to extend to all of our members and their families our best wishes for a safe and joyous holiday season.

In Solidarity,

Tammy Moore
President, Unifor Local 2002
