Dear Member,

I sincerely hope you and your loved ones are doing well as we all are learning how to be safe, and adjust to living through a pandemic.

Like many people around the globe, our members and families are living through massive layoffs, isolation and the uncertainty of when we will see things begin to return to pre-pandemic standard.

Members in record numbers are applying for the various government income support programs, including the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) or the Canada Employment Wage Subsidy (CEWS). Our local is seeing more employers applying for (and being approved for) participation in CEWS program, providing up to 75% of wages to a maximum of $847.00 per week before deductions.

What matters most right now is your health, safety and mental well-being. The COVID-19 pandemic has already had an undeniable impact on the aviation industry and our membership, but Unifor remains committed to you; working on your behalf and providing vital information and the necessary tools to navigate throughout the crisis and eventually helping you return to the workplace.

These links will provide you with the most up-to-date information and resources:

Throughout this entire pandemic, balance how much news and social media you are consuming. Be sure to take time out to read a book, play a board game or exercise. It’s important for all of us now and again to disconnect or distract ourselves. We owe it to ourselves and our families.

We understand that these are difficult and uncertain times, with widespread layoffs, physical isolation, and the uncertainty of what the future may hold, but Unifor will remain by your side every step of the way. If you are still performing your duties in the workplace, I am grateful for your dedication and thank you. If you are on layoff, I look forward to having you back in the workplace and continuing your work with pride.

The Unifor Local 2002 office remains active online, and by telephone for the benefit of all members with our staff working remotely. As per the federal and provincial government requirements, the physical office is closed; everyone must do their part to flatten the curve and reduce the risk of further transmission of the virus.

If you require information on workplace health and safety, assistance with the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS), employment insurance claim, or another COVID-19 related issue, please reach out via email or phone to your District Chairperson, Vice President or Workplace Representative.

For now, please stay safe and well. Take care of yourself and your loved ones, and do not hesitate to get in touch. We're in this together.

In Solidarity,

Euila Leonard
President
