In accordance with the Unifor Local 2002 Executive Board, two (2) positions for Human Rights Advocate are being posted. Although the experience and training garnered over the years can make an incumbent invaluable, the bylaws require the Local to post this position every three years as it serves as a review of the position, provides transparency to the process and allows the Local to do its due diligence.
  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Local 2002 Human Rights Coordinator, as needed

  • Assist the Local 2002 Human Rights Coordinator to deliver workshops in the area human rights, as needed

  • Assist the Local 2002 Human Rights Coordinator in conducting workplace harassment investigations, as needed

  • Assist the Local 2002 Human Rights Coordinator in supporting the Local and membership in situations of workplace conflict, as needed
      

PREREQUISITES / ASSETS:

  • Excellent English written and verbal skills is a prerequisite

  • French verbal skills is an asset

  • Maintain confidentiality and impartiality in situations of conflict is mandatory

  • Experience facilitating training sessions in the area of human rights, or relevant facilitator training or experience is an asset

  • Experience conducting workplace investigations, specifically in the area of human rights, or relevant investigator training is an asset

  • Experience dealing with workplace conflict or relevant training in conflict resolution is an asset

  • Must have flexibility to travel and be away for several days at a time

  • Ability to work collaboratively with Local leadership and management representatives

  • Be active in the community and trade union movement in the area of human rights
