Unifor shines light on sexually exploited and trafficked women with online education course

As Unifor and community members, we frequently come together to support causes close to our hearts, to advocate for justice, and to stand in solidarity with those who are vulnerable and marginalized.

The Unifor Local 2002 Women's Committee, in collaboration with the Local 2002 Women’s Advocates, will be hosting an online (Zoom) human trafficking education course on May 3, 2024. Maggie Beattie, Addiction Counsellor from SAFEHOPE HOME will facilitate the course.

Maggie Beatie is recognized as a distinguished advocate for women. She has earned respect and admiration of her colleagues during her long career in addiction services and sexual assault organizations. At MacMaster University, she studied addiction and mental health and has become a natural learner and teacher, embracing sharing knowledge with her community.

Human trafficking is a violation of human rights and robs individuals of their dignity, autonomy, and freedom. It is a widespread problem that knows no borders, affecting individuals around world, including right here in Canada. Often hidden in plain sight, victims of human trafficking are subjected to coercion, manipulation, and exploitation for the profit of others.

We hope you will take the time to attend this important online education course. Together, we can make a difference by learning about this critical issue, raising awareness, supporting survivors, and working to prevent future exploitation.

Thank you for your attention and for your commitment to making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
