As we head into the busy holiday season, let’s use our voices to let the Canadian government, airports and airlines know they need to respect us, protect us, and support us, as aviation workers.
Join us for a Day of Action at Pearson International Airport in Toronto on Mon., Dec. 18 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. as we push them to finally deal with the root causes of travel chaos by improving wages and working conditions in the sector.
Please meet at Terminal 1 outside the domestic Departures area at that time. We’ll also ask members to head to outside the Arrivals area at Terminal 3 to spread our solidarity throughout the airport.
Take a stand to say aviation workers deserve better than to face unpredictable hours, low wages, harassment, and contract flipping.
The Canadian government, airport authorities and airlines need to do more to address issues around worker attraction and retention, improving job quality and increasing the number of workers who chose to stay in the industry to perform the essential work required.
This is why Unifor introduced its Air Transportation Workers’ Charter of Rights to ensure workers in the aviation industry have fair pay and fair scheduling, protection from contracting out and access to safe and effective reporting mechanisms when problems arise.
It also puts pressure on all stakeholders to address unsafe and unsustainable workloads, requires employers to provide adequate, high-quality training, ensure a harassment-free environment, deliver a healthy and safe workplace, and ensure a say in technological change.
