Dear Unifor Local 2002 members impacted by the ongoing wildfires,
As the rest of the world watches as wildfires force residents to evacuate their homes and seek safety, I would like to take a moment to extend my heartfelt support to all of you and your families during this challenging time.
The unpredictability and magnitude of these wildfires can undoubtedly be overwhelming, causing distress and anxiety for everyone involved. Your safety and well-being are of utmost importance, and I want you to know that the entire Unifor community stands with you in solidarity.
We know that most members and families have already evacuated Yellowknife and I hope this letter finds you safe and in good health. Members in parts of British Columbia have also been ordered to leave. If you have remained behind to offer your services and support to those residents and evacuees, please exercise caution during this most dangerous time.
Unifor Local 2002 members at both Jazz Aviation and Canadian North have been instrumental in the evacuation efforts in Yellowknife, as well at the receiving airports accepting evacuees. It was impressive to see both airlines adding extra flights and providing their own support operations to move residents out of the areas impacted by the wild fires.
As Unifor members, you are part of a larger family that spans across Canada, and we are here to support you. As I write this letter, both your Unifor Local and Unifor National are working on an action plan to support you and your family. If you find yourselves in need of assistance, whether it is regarding your immediate needs, information about resources, or just someone to speak to, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Our priority is to ensure that you and your families are safe and well-cared for during this challenging period.
