Instructions from the Canadian Red Cross for those members and their families directly impacted by the wildfires.

People under evacuation order due to fires in the Northwest Territories are encouraged to register with the Canadian Red Cross.

  • People under evacuation order due to the fires in the Northwest Territories may register with the Canadian Red Cross by clicking on redcross.ca/nwtfires or by calling 1-800-863-6582 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. MT, seven days a week.
  • Registration with the Red Cross ensures people can be contacted while away from home and can be reached with information on Red Cross services and assistance that may become available to them during this difficult time.

At the request of the City of Edmonton, the Canadian Red Cross is assisting people under evacuation order from Yellowknife and the Northwest Territories with lodging support.

  • People who have evacuated from their homes to Edmonton may go to the
Edmonton EXPO Centre to access support.
  • There are additional reception and evacuation centres in Grande Prairie, Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, St. Albert, Leduc, Red Deer, and Calgary although the Red Cross is not on site at those centres.

At the request of the Government of Manitoba, the Canadian Red Cross is providing support to people impacted by wildfires in the Northwest Territories as they arrive in Manitoba.

  • The Red Cross has teams at hotels to welcome people as they arrive and to provide comfort and care as they get settled.

The Government of Northwest Territories is providing updated information for those impacted by the fires in several ways.
