This Holiday Season brings us to the busiest time of the year again for our Local 2002 members. We would like to personally thank all of our 14,000 hardworking Unifor Local 2002 members across Canada. Our respect and gratitude go out to the many activists, workplace representatives, and leaders in our Local who make Local 2002 a powerful force for change. A special note of appreciation goes out to the Local 2002 staff that work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that Local 2002 and its members always shine.
This past year, we have made it our priority to engage our members and build our local union. Local 2002 has a lot to be proud of. We would like to take a moment to highlight some of our newest family members that have joined Local 2002 during the past year; United Ramp in Nanaimo, BC, Menzies in Comox, BC, Strategic Aviation, in Halifax, NS, Aéroport de Quebec, in Quebec City, QC, Skylink Express pilots, GardaWorld, in Calgary, AB and Airport Terminal Services (ATS), in Winnipeg, MB.
Despite record inflation and skyrocketing costs, there have been many hard-won victories for our members at the bargaining tables this year, and many more to come. Together we have negotiated safer workplaces, paid vacation time, and significant gains in wages and benefits. We have taken serious action to Stop Contract Flipping at Canada’s Airports and will not stop until this disastrous practice is outlawed. Our commitment to advancing social justice causes for all is as strong as ever. Together, we have weathered the last two and a half years of this pandemic and despite difficult circumstances, our Unifor Local 2002 members have stood strong in the fight for fairness and equality.
As we look forward to 2023, though there are still many challenges to overcome, we look forward to continuing working together to tackle these difficulties with renewed energy and resolve. Local 2002 stands with you and we will continue to protect and improve members’ rights.
