Stand Up for Human Rights!

Stand Up for Human Rights!

International Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10th. On this day in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The landmark document states that human rights are not the preserve any one nation, or race, or gender, but that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. These rights are key to binding us together as workers and as a global community.

With growing incidents of bullying, hate crimes, human rights violations, and the worsening of economic turmoil around the world, we are reminded that every day must be a day to uphold human rights. As Unifor leaders and members, we must take action and respond to injustice everywhere.

This Human Rights Day calls on everyone to stand up for someone's rights! It is everyone's responsibility to uphold human rights. Step forward and defend the rights of an indigenous person, a person with a disability, an LGBT person, a child, or anyone else at risk of discrimination or violence.

Together, let's continue to build awareness of human rights issues and strive to ensure that all people enjoy human rights equally.
