Unifor Local 2002 calls on all members across Canada to join in recognizing May 17th as the International Against Homophobia and Transphobia.  The date was chosen specifically to commemorate the World Health Organization's decision in 1990 to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder. Today, over 132 countries recognize this annual equity day.

All human beings, groups, and organizations have a human right to freely express themselves; this message should not only resonate on May 17, the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia, but every day.

Today we continue to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ sisters and brothers in the fight for equality and respect. We are proud to be included in the many labour groups and community organizations across the Canada that support this important day.

In soildarity.
