Unifor reaches tentative agreement with Nasittuq Corporation

Your Unifor bargaining committee is pleased to announce that earlier today a new tentative agreement was reached with Nasittuq Corporation. The agreement is subject to a ratification vote by the Unifor membership.

The union and employer convened over the course of 3 weeks, beginning in February 2024, with the intent of forming a new collective agreement for 70 members employed at Nasittuq Corporation.

  

Highlights of the tentative agreement include:

  • Improvements to compensation for administration work

  • Increase to wages in each year of the agreement

  • Increase to benefits

  • Increase to premiums and allowances

  • Increase to vacation pay at 5 years (rather than 10 years of service)

  • Improvements to contract language related to definitions, travel, pay administration, and more.

  • New Racial Justice and Woman’s Advocate Positions

  

This contract will be in place for a three-year term expiring May 31, 2027.

  

MEETING DATE AND TIME

Unifor will holding an in-person as well as a virtual information session to review details of the tentative agreement and answer any questions you may have. Meetings will be held as follows:

  • May 6, 2024

  • 1930 hours
    via Zoom for those on out-rotation

  • Zoom meetings details will be sent to personal email addresses in the coming days

  • NOTE: an in-person meeting will be held on-site for those in Alert (details of location will be communicated on-site)

  

VOTING PROCESS

Voting will open at 2030 hours on May 6 and remain open until 1200 hours on May 7, 2024. Members must attend the meeting in order to receive a ballot and participate in the ratification vote. Ballots will be delivered to the last personal email address on file with Unifor Local 2002 on May 6 after the commencement of the ratification meeting.

  

COPY OF THE TENTATIVE AGREEMENT

A copy of the tentative agreement will be sent out to members at their last personal email address on file with Unifor Local 2002 just prior to the start of the meeting.

For those attending the ratification meeting at in Alert (i.e. in-person), hard copies of the tentative agreement will be provided at the meeting.

  

YOUR UNIFOR BARGAINING COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY RECOMMENDS MEMBERS VOTE YES TO THIS TENTATIVE AGREEMENT

  

Members at Nasittuq are responsible for a range of support services to Canada’s Department of National Defense at Canadian Forces Station Alert, Ellesmere Island, Nunavut. These services include (but are not limited to): facilities maintenance, airfield operations, food services and transport, logistical and administrative support.
