Unifor readies to negotiate with Nasittuq Corporation

January 25, 2024 at 12:00 PM

Your Unifor Bargaining Committee met this week to review membership bargaining survey data and develop proposals ahead of contract negotiations with Nasittuq Corporation – the Employer.

Members at Nasittuq are responsible for a range of support services to Canada’s Department of National Defense at Canadian Forces Station Alert, Ellesmere Island, Nunavut. These services include (but are not limited to): facilities maintenance, airfield operations, food services and transport, logistical and administrative support.

Meeting dates have been secured to begin in-person negotiations from February 5th to February 9th in Belleville, Ontario. At that time, the Union will have both non-monetary (i.e. language updates and enhancements) as well as monetary proposals that will be presented to the Employer. These proposals will form the bargaining demands and priorities for this round of negotiations.

Throughout the bargaining process, specific details of what is discussed at the table will not be communicated with the membership. This is to maintain the integrity of the bargaining process. However, the Committee will commit to keeping the membership updated with any, and all information that we can share throughout the process.

Your Unifor Committee is working hard and strategizing ahead of these meetings to ensure a fair and equitable agreement can be brought back to the membership for a successful ratification outcome.

The current collective agreement will expire on May 31, 2024.
