Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Since my last message in November 2017, the Local continues to work on behalf of all members with workplace elections, training, and bargaining committee elections.
Local 2002 Executive Board met on March 6-8 in Toronto, for quarterly meetings to discuss the affairs of our Local, training, and planning for the year ahead.
As of January 2018, we have ratified Collective Agreements at
Jazz Customer & Aircraft Services and
Worldwide Flight Services. I want to congratulate the bargaining committees and members for having ratified these Agreements. Throughout 2018 there are several collective agreements that will be renegotiated.
Training
- Workplace Leadership and Grievance Handling training classes have been ongoing for newly elected workplace representatives.
- Federal Health & Safety training classes were completed for newly elected Health & Safety representatives in Toronto, Vancouver, and Halifax.
The Gavel
February saw the return of
The Gavel a quarterly online grievance publication aimed at sharing and bringing our members information about labour and employment issues that impact our workplaces.
Solidarity with Tim Hortons
Local 2002 participated in the National Day of action
January 19, 2018, in support of workers at Tim Hortons who have had their benefits and working conditions unilaterally removed by their employer,
“Fight for $15 and Fairness” was the slogan. As a union, we are committed to supporting non-unionized workers and their fight for justice for a better standard of living for themselves and their families.
Pink Shirt Day
February 28, 2018, we asked members to heed the
Call of Action and wear a Stop Bullying button. We featured the campaign on Local 2002 social media platforms, website and via e-news.
Gossip is Like Spam
Local 2002 launched the
Gossip like Spam campaign on March 9th, on our website and social media platforms to raise awareness of workplace gossip and rumor-mongering.
New Member Kits
The Communications department is updating the New Member Kit, the kit will be available on the website where District representatives will have the ability to download and print the booklets as needed. The anticipated completion date is mid April 2018. The Local will continue to have the printed booklet version in English and French for distribution.
