Jazz Aviation Customer & Aircraft Services: New! Vacancy for (3) Racial Justice Advocates

The Unifor – Jazz Customer & Aircraft Services - Racial Justice Advocate is a newly negotiated position in the collective agreement between Unifor Local 2002 and Jazz Aviation. Unifor Local 2002 is accepting applications for three Racial Justice Advocates - Jazz Aviation – Customer & Aircraft Services.
 
Role of the Racial Justice Advocate
The role of the Racial Justice Advocate involves actively working towards achieving racial equity, challenging systemic racism, and advocating for the rights and fair treatment of marginalized racial and ethnic groups. They also educate Unifor members about the impact of racism and work toward systematic change. The Advocate will collaborate with union members and activists to identify their needs and concerns and work together to develop strategies for change.

New Article Racial Justice Advocate – Letter of Understanding #17
In recognition of societal racism, the Company agrees to identify three (3) racial justice advocates. A Racial Justice Advocate will be an individual who identifies as a member of the Black, Indigenous or racialized community.  The Local Union President will be responsible for the selection of the facility’s Racial Justice Advocate. A Racial Justice Advocate is a workplace representative who will assist and provide support for Black, Indigenous, and racialized people and concerns such as racial discrimination and racial violence.
 
The role of the Racial Justice Advocate in the workplace will include to:
  • Listen
  • Provide support to Black, Indigenous, and racialized members.
  • Assist with racial justice initiatives.
  • Promote access to community culturally appropriate services.
  • Work with facility leadership to develop, implement, and monitor an Anti-Racism Action Plan
  • Network with coalition partners
Should the Racial Justice Advocate require time off the job to fulfill their duties, the Union will review the request and, if in agreement, will submit a leave of absence request prior to the requested leave for approval by the Human Resources department. Such approval shall not be unreasonably withheld.
