In preparation for negotiations, the Bargaining Committee met on January 20 to 22, 2020 to establish the proposals and review the language in the current collective agreement that would be presented to the Company. The Bargaining Committees' agenda is directed by the feedback provided by the members through bargaining surveys and conference call meetings.
Your Morningstar Bargaining Committee met with the Company on January 23, 2020, to begin contract negotiations for a new collective agreement. As is the normal practice, both parties tabled its non-monetary and reserved the monetary proposals for the afternoon session. Discussions with the Company have been productive and we can report that progress is being made on the non-monetary demands.
Late that afternoon, the Union presented the Company with its monetary proposals. Our proposals include significant economic gains at which the Company advised they would need some time to review the financial costs of these proposals. The Company has committed to providing the Bargaining Committee with an analysis report when both parties meet face- to- face in Toronto, on March 3 to 6, 2020.
Your Bargaining Committee is committed to negotiating a market-leading collective agreement for the members of Morningstar. While collective bargaining negotiations are underway, Unifor commits to respecting the confidentiality of the process. When negotiations are complete and tentative agreement has been reached, it will be announced to the membership.
