Unifor disappointed with A.S.P. Security announcement

February 3, 2022 at 5:00 PM

Today, A.S.P. Security Services announced that they would not be retaining the Operational Support Representatives (OSR) and Canine Explosive Dog Detection (EDD) employee groups at Toronto Pearson Airport. This change will come into effect on May 1, 2022.

"I am shocked and extremely disappointed to hear the announcement that A.S.P. Security would not be retaining the OSR and Canine EDD job classifications from their contract provider," said Tammy Moore, Unifor Local 2002 President. "We have seen employers in the media spotlight before, accused of ‘contract flipping’ – the unethical practice of switching service providers to minimize costs. Unifor will not stand by while employers lead a race to the bottom of the wage scale."

The A.S.P. Management team will be meeting with the Greater Toronto Airport Authority next week to debrief the results and coordinate the contract transition plans. Those members impacted by this decision will be informed by the employer soon.

Your elected Unifor Representatives are keeping a close eye on this situation and will communicate any additional information when it becomes available.
