Aeroplan Mediation Scheduled

Aeroplan Mediation Scheduled

May 11, 2009 at 10:00 PM

A mediation hearing has been scheduled by the CIRB on May 20, 2009 to bring the CAW, Air Canada, and Aeroplan together to address the following outstanding issues:

  • Bargaining with CAW members without a certificate for Aeroplan as of Dec. 04, 2008.

  • Aeroplan/Air Canada imposing deadlines for choice of employer and moving members before the end of the current collective agreement without any agreement from the CAW.

  • Negotiated transition period for members.

  • Allowing members to change their decision due to lack of information and rushed deadline, without any agreement on the process with the CAW.

  • Violation of article 10/12. This is in response to the company forcing employees to make a decision with a deadline of April 5, 2009.

  • LOU 18 for all affected employees.

  • Improving the Travel passes.

  • Maintaining the same date (October 04, 2009) for all employees in regards to earning seniority, for the purposes of travel.

  • Employees, who chose lay off to the street, are senior to employees currently working who are not being laid off until Oct 04, 2009.

  • Full-time employees, who had to bump to part-time, are senior to some employees who are not being laid off until October 04, 2009.

  • A multitude of individual grievances have been filed.

  • Members in Aeroplan who would like to sever from Air Canada and Aeroplan and would like the option to take article 10.13. Note:  If a favourable ruling comes from the Board under LOU 18, it would better serve the members.

  • Allowing members, who were denied the right, to activate their options to leave Aeroplan. These employees had submitted a valid Letter of Transfer within the last 12 months.

  • Allowing members who missed the company deadline March 2nd / 5 April 2009 to make a choice or activate their choice.

  • Members who had refused a transfer out of Aeroplan in which the company is now refusing them the right to remain with Air Canada. Employees affected under LOU 25 have the right to bump according to point number 6.

  • Any members being denied their right to move in or out of Aeroplan voluntarily due to LOU 25 restriction.

We appreciate your patience as we seek resolution from the CIRB for the multitude of circumstances that are adversely affecting our members at Aeroplan. We will continue to keep you informed.
