On September 11, 2013, your union and the company met at a Union Management
Headquarters meeting (UMHQ) to discuss many issues that are important and
affecting members. The agenda was lengthy; however there were two very evident
reoccurring themes: the lack of communication and discussion with the union over
a variety of changing practices occurring within the offices since the New Year,
and the inability or unwillingness to resolve a growing list of outstanding
issues. After several months of intransigence and frustration, it was time to
remove the barriers and set a plan in motion to resolve the outstanding issues
and work towards a relationship involving respectful discussion on matters
affecting our members.
We are pleased to report that progress has been made on a number of issues.
After months of disagreement over the statutory bank language that was
negotiated in our last contract, we can acknowledge that this issue is now in
the final stages of implementation and details will be released shortly.
We have agreed to use an expedited arbitration process to clear all remaining
grievances by the first quarter of 2014.
Further, the discipline attached to the alleged work stoppage has finally
been settled. Your district chairpersons, local and national representatives
have worked hard to plead these cases which has resulted in successfully having
all discipline letters removed and all unpaid suspensions paid back to every one
affected. Needless to say, we are pleased about this settlement and are
empathetic to the stress that this has caused our Aeroplan members.
Your union wants to reassure you that the documentation remaining on your
file cannot be used against you for future discipline. We are hopeful that this
kind of settlement is the groundwork for a fresh new start in the relationship
between Aeroplan and Unifor.
