Aeroplan: Women's Advocates required

Aeroplan: Women's Advocates required

February 1, 2010 at 9:45 AM

The Bargaining Committee was able to negotiate (in the recent collective agreement) a Women’s Advocate for our Aeroplan members.

The negotiated language is as follows:

LETTER OF INTENT – WOMEN’S ADVOCATE

The parties recognize that female employees may sometimes need to discuss with another woman matters such as violence or abuse at home or workplace harassment. They may also need to find out about specialized resources in the community such as counsellors or women’s shelters to assist them in dealing with these and other issues.

For these reasons the parties agree to recognize the role of the women’s advocate in the workplace. The advocate will meet with female members as required, discuss problems with them and refer them to the appropriate agency when necessary.

The Company agrees to provide access to a confidential phone line and a computer with internet access that can be maintained by the women’s advocate and that is accessible for female employees to contact the women’s advocate. As well, the Company will provide access to a private office so that confidentiality can be maintained when a female employee is meeting with the women’s advocate.

The Company and the Union will develop appropriate communications to inform female employees about the advocacy role and contact numbers to reach the women’s advocate.

The women’s advocate will participate in an initial 40-hour training program organized by the CAW and an annual three-day update-training program.

Subject to prior approval, the Company agrees to pay for lost time, including travel time, registration costs where necessary, lodging, transportation, meals, and other reasonable expenses where necessary.

Julie White, Director of the CAW Women’s Department, as well Sue Houston National Employment Equity Co-ordinator have pledged their complete support in helping get this role off the ground as well as in providing ongoing resource and support assistance.

One week of training will be held April 26th to 30th (plus travel time) in London, Ontario.

All Full and Part time women who work in the Aeroplan Call Centers are eligible to apply and take on this important role. There will be two (2) positions whereas one must be bilingual from Montreal and one in Vancouver.
