Aeroplan recently distributed a ‘frequently asked questions’ document to employees ("Pension-Update June 5" and "Pension Plan FAQs").
We have reviewed the pension information provided by Aeroplan with our research department and pension actuaries. Pension funding is based on the two principles of the Company’s ability to pay and their investment returns to the pension plan. There are some particular process issues that can only be addressed with the final text negotiated between Air Canada and Aeroplan. However, it is a common practice under pension law regarding the transition between companies when it comes to pensionable service that makes the process almost seamless to the employee.
With these reviews, it can be confidently stated that the membership should see no significant changes in their retirement process. Minor details outstanding, the general practice of retirement income will continue.
