Last week the Unifor bargaining committee met in
Vancouver to discuss final strategies prior to the commencement of bargaining
with Aeroplan.
"This past year has been a difficult time for our
members, filled with much uncertainty in the face of layoffs and an
ever-changing industry," said Cheryl Robinson, President of Unifor local 2002.
"The way employees work day-to-day looks very different than it did many years
ago, but we are committed to maintaining current job functions and opportunities
for the future."
Unifor local 2002 represents more than 500 members
at Aeroplan in Montreal and Vancouver. These members book airline rewards for
customers, answer customer service questions related to online bookings and
support customers with online transactions.
Earlier this year, Unifor members at Aeroplan
completed bargaining surveys and attended important proposal meetings; an
integral component of the bargaining process as it provides the committee a
clear mandate and direction going into negotiations.
Bargaining officially begins on October 14 in
Montreal where Unifor and Aeroplan will exchange proposals.
The current collective agreement between Unifor and
Aeroplan expires November 14, 2015.
