On March 6
th, Unifor met with AGI management and was officially informed of the results of the Request for Proposal (RFP) issued by the GTAA in late 2025 regarding Ground Handling Licenses at Toronto Pearson Airport. The news was not what AGI expected. We have been informed that AGI, along with Menzies, did not have their licenses renewed.
At this time, we know that AGI will maintain its license in Toronto until mid-September. Unifor has been advised that during this transition, all unionized employees are asked to continue reporting to work and providing excellent service to their respective airlines. For now, it remains business as usual.
We understand that you are worried, nervous, and upset. We are working diligently to get answers to the many questions you—and we—have. We plan to schedule membership meetings in the coming weeks and encourage everyone to attend. These meetings will be a space to ask questions and for us to share any new information we receive.
We have been in discussions with the IAM, the union representing Menzies workers, to determine how best to proceed. Our goal and hope are to keep everyone employed, ideally resulting only in a change of employer and management.
The two ground handlers that had their licenses renewed were Swissport and Dnata. Additionally, two non-unionized handlers, Samsic and Unifi, received licenses and are now able to seek and confirm airline contracts at Toronto Pearson.
We will keep you updated as further information becomes available. In the meantime, please feel free to contact your Unifor workplace representatives with any questions or concerns.
Remember to support and lift each other up during this challenging time.
In Solidarity,
Theresa Amicarelli- Assistant to the Local 2002 President
