On December 14, 2016, Unifor submitted an application to the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to amend the current certification for the Canadian North AME's to include aircraft maintenance engineers and apprentices working in Iqaluit, Yellowknife, and Calgary.  On January 10, 2017, the CIRB granted the amendment and declared Unifor as their bargaining agent.

“Local 2002 is thrilled to welcome these new members from Calgary, Yellowknife and Iqaluit,” says President Cheryl Robinson.  “As a result of these three bases being added to this bargaining unit we have doubled our membership, our strength in bargaining and our solidarity in the workplace.”

Unifor will be holding a membership meeting in Calgary in the early part of February for all new members. The purpose of the meeting will be to provide members with an overview of where we currently are in the bargaining process. It is our goal to find a representative from each base who is interested in sitting at the bargaining table with the current committee. In this way we can ensure the needs of the members from all three bases are taken into consideration prior to reaching a tentative agreement.

We will provide you with additional details when we firm up the date and time of the membership meeting. For those members who cannot attend the meeting in person we will provide you with the details to attend the meeting via teleconference.
