Merger Update: Canadian North Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMES) District 227

July 20, 2018 at 5:00 PM

Following the First Air/Canadian North merger announcement on Friday, July 6th, 2018, we would like to inform our members at District 227 that there is no change in regards to your union representation.

Local 2002 will continue to represent members of District 227 until such time as the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) is required to make a decision on representation. This decision will not occur until all of the governing bodies, which includes the Competition Bureau and Ministry of Transportation, have approved the merger.

During this time, the current collective agreement will continue to apply to the members of District 227.

Local 2002 will provide information to the members as the merger process unfolds. Understandably, there are uncertainties surrounding the proposed merger that may cause confusion and concern to our members, however, it is important to that we remain united and supportive of each other during this process. In the interim, it is "business as usual".

In solidarity,
Ashley Watkins – Assistant to the President
