On Friday, October 31, 2025, Canadian North sent a communication to all its employees, including unionized employee groups, advising that staffing reductions would be made at the airline soon. As many of you were already aware that some management reductions had been processed earlier in the week, this announcement came as no surprise to many employees.
Unifor Local 2002 would like to reassure our members that every effort to mitigate any layoffs is our first course of action. The plan would be to try to mitigate any layoffs through attrition. This means that anyone who has their years of service and age to meet the retirement threshold may accept leaving Canadian North.
If enough members are willing to accept retirement, this will not force any layoffs within our bargaining unit. If anyone is willing to accept a layoff out of seniority orders, this will also be considered as a mitigating factor.
The Company has advised Unifor that it will not be filling any vacant positions to avert any potential layoffs. Should this situation change, the Company will advise the Union, and we will communicate with the members the next steps.
In Solidarity,
Bobby Zanetti – District Chairperson YFB
Crystal Campbell - District Chairperson YOW
Chad McNeil - District Chairperson YZF
Theresa Amicarelli - Assistant to Unifor 2002 President
Michelle Arruda - Ottawa Area Director
Tammy Moore - President of Unifor 2002
