Canadian North Unifor Members: Update on the Sale of Company

Canadian North Unifor Members: Update on the Sale of Company

February 26, 2025 at 1:30 PM

On February 24th, 2025, we were informed that Canadian North has been sold to Exchange Income Corporation (EIC), following the decision by the current owners, Makivvik Corporation and Inuvialuit Development Corporation.

Unifor would like to assure all members across Canada that this change in ownership will not affect our unionized workforce. The terms of the existing collective agreement will remain in place, and the agreement will transfer to the new owner, Exchange Income Corporation (EIC).

The Company has confirmed that Canadian North will continue to operate as it currently does while awaiting the necessary regulatory approvals from the relevant government agencies.

It is important to note that EIC owns and operates several other airlines, each operating independently, and this model will remain unchanged for Canadian North.

To clarify, this transaction is not a merger of airlines, unlike the integration experienced in 2019 with First Air and Canadian North. This is a straightforward change of ownership and will have no impact on the terms and conditions of employment for our members.

We encourage all members to continue reporting to work as usual and fulfilling your assigned duties as per your work schedules.

Unifor will continue to provide updates as we receive further information from EIC. However, please be aware that employees may sometimes receive information directly before the union does.

Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please reach out to your Unifor District Representatives.

In solidarity,
