Firstly, thank you for choosing
Unifor to be your voice in the workplace. You are now proud members of Unifor
Local 2002; one of the largest locals in Unifor and is home to aviation sector
workers. We have a very long and proud history in the aviation sector and we are
confident that you will soon see the many benefits of being in a strong and
progressive union.
We wanted to provide you with an
update on what to expect in the coming weeks. In the early stages of being in a
union, it can feel like nothing is happening and that not enough information is
circulating about the union. We are in the process of collecting your contact
information and adding it to our database. Once this is completed, information
will begin to circulate to your workplace and to you via email.
Membership meetings
In July, Unifor had membership
meetings in Halifax and Gander in order to meet with you directly and hear the
issues that are affecting your workplaces. Many of you expressed positive
comments about your employer, but there are always things that can be improved.
We also had elections for the EVAS bargaining committee. We are happy to report
we have a great Committee in place comprising of Sam Leblanc, Jeff Piche, Miguel
Salvador and Ian Leach. They all have a great amount of flying experience and a
good sense of what changes are needed for fairness in the workplace. If any of
you have questions or suggestions, please let the Bargaining Committee know.
Negotiations
We are in the process of setting
dates with EVAS to begin contract negotiations. As we discussed at the meetings,
Unifor will do its best to be at the table negotiating for you whenever the
Company is willing to meet. We have spoken with Florence White who had committed
to being available in August but the Company’s hired HR representative, Ivano
Andriani is not available for the entire month of August. We do have some dates
at the end of September and are awaiting more details to come. It is our
preference to negotiate efficiently and professionally and we are optimistic
this can be done with EVAS.
We have a proven track record of
achieving great contracts without labour disruption. About 98% of all Unifor
contracts are successfully negotiated without a work stoppage. And this success
has worked for more than 3,000 companies in Canada employing more than 305,000
Unifor members, making Unifor the largest private sector union in Canada.

bargaining committee representatives and share your top five bargaining issues
for the upcoming contact negotiations. Make your voice heard at the bargaining
