Petitions protesting pass changes delivered to Air Canada

March 1, 2012 at 1:34 PM

To date, over 2,000 employees from Jazz and Air Canada have signed petitions to protest contentious changes to the company’s pass travel policy for both employee groups.

Your message will be heard loud and clear.

On February 29, 2012 copies of the petition were delivered to Air Canada Labour Relations by Local 2002 Executive Assistant, Ashley Watkins along with a message that "these unilateral changes will only serve only to divide employees in an industry that is riddled with unfair distribution of compensation and benefits."

In addition, a joint letter from the Jazz and Air Canada workers is being sent to senior management at both companies to request that a meeting regarding the unfair changes be convened as soon as possible. The letter is signed by CAW Local 2002 President Jamie Ross, ALPA Jazz MEC Chairman Claude Buraglia, IAMAW District 140 President Chuck Atkinson and CFAU President Jocelyn Dicks.

This is a fundamental question of fairness and respect. Good morale cannot exist if management continues to take unilateral action without any consultation with its employees.

The next course of action will depend on how the Company responds to our requests to fix this issue.

This petition is unprecedented as it marks the first joint action by workers from both Jazz and Air Canada in support of each other. Your collective activism is making a difference and we will continue doing everything possible to have management address your concerns and keep you advised of any developments.

Thanks for your incredible solidarity and support.
