Company offers “stocking stuffers” to Jazz CSA/ACS members

December 14, 2012 at 3:45 PM

The Jazz CSA/ACS bargaining committee met with the company from December 11 to the 13, 2012. The company agreed to a number of monetary proposals which Kirk Newhook, the director of labour relations referred to as "stocking stuffers."

Over the next few weeks, the committee will be discussing the companies’ response to all of the submitted monetary proposals in detail and respond accordingly, when both sides return to the table in the New Year.

"The company repeatedly states in 'news flashes' that it is making money," said committee chairperson Shirley Anderson Mio. "The next contract should reflect that profitability and honour the contribution of our members."

Members have asked what will happen when the current collective agreement for Jazz customer and aircraft service workers expires on January 13, 2013. The agreement remains in force until a new one is bargained. Conciliation will not be pursued as long as talks continue to progress.

There is a certain challenge in keeping the membership informed throughout the process while respecting the sensitivity of negotiations. Rest assured that the resolve of the bargaining committee remains unchanged; we are determined to negotiate the best contract possible for the membership.

The next meeting with the company is January 15-17, 2013 in Vancouver. We will continue to keep the membership informed. Look for the next bargaining bulletin on Friday January 18, 2013.

Until then, work safely and enjoy the best of the holiday season!
