JAZZ CSA/ACS Members: Impact of COVID-19- Air Canada closes several Domestic Regional Stations

June 30, 2020 at 4:45 PM

As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and reduced passenger demand, today, Jazz Aviation informed Unifor that Air Canada will be terminating service to several domestic regional markets.

Eight domestic stations will close, three of these stations are staffed by our Jazz – Unifor members in North Bay – YYB, Val d’Or – YVO, and Kingston – YGK.  Our members who serve as Customer Service representatives in these three bases, unfortunately, will be affected and will receive lay off notices in the coming weeks.  The bargaining committee would like to reassure the affected members in North Bay, Val d'Or, and Kingston, that the Company will be following the base closure guidelines as outlined in the language of the collective agreement.

The five other base closures are third party suppliers who operate on behalf of Jazz Aviation in (Bathurst - ZBF, Wabush -YWK, Gaspe -YGP, Mont-Joli - YYY, and Baie Comeau -YBC).

The union recognizes that this is a stressful time for our members at Jazz. Unifor will continue to protect the interests and the rights of our members.  Members of the committee are always available to discuss any questions you having regarding this or any other issues.

Unifor Local 2002 will continue to keep the membership apprised of any further developments.

In Solidarity,
