After an empowering pre-bargaining leadership meeting held in Toronto on July 31, the Jazz CSA/ACS bargaining committee met for several days at the CAW Local 2002 head office. The purpose was to go through the collective agreement article by article. This is a very long and sometimes tedious process, but it is absolutely necessary to prepare for bargaining as the language in our collective agreement dictates our terms of work. The committee will have to meet several times in order to finalize this.
Scrutinizing the contract is just one piece of the bargaining puzzle; membership feedback, participation and solidarity are crucial to the whole picture of success in negotiations.
Before we construct our proposals to present to the company, we will tally the membership surveys that have been distributed by the leadership. The results will be discussed and debated at proposal meetings scheduled in October.
Don’t forget to send in your completed survey by the August 24 deadline and wear your Fair Deal bracelets.
