Jazz CSA/ACS: Jazz Significantly Reduces Staff Requirements in Night Cabins at YVR, YYC, and YYZ

March 21, 2012 at 3:00 PM

Last Friday, the CAW was informed by Jazz Management that the Company plans to reduce their staffing levels at Jazz ACS in the night cabins classification in Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto.

This is undoubtedly a very difficult time for many members. Several members of the Bargaining Committee have been in continuous contact and have attended several conference calls – both internally and with the employer – in order to clearly understand what is happening from a system perspective. This communication with the Company is to ensure we are apprised of Jazz’s position with respect to such issues as;

  • Time frame for notifying members

  • Number of Full Time members effected

  • Number of Part Time vacancies created

  • Response time of notification

  • Schedules and implementation etc.

Your Bargaining Committee, along with the Local and National Union, is currently doing everything they can to understand and best deal with this matter.

To say that the CAW is disappointed with the decisions Jazz has made is an understatement. As you know the collective agreement expires in January. Considering how close we are to collective bargaining, an opportunity to address the needs of both parties, it is ill-timed for the company to implement such significant changes affecting so many of our members across the system.

The Union would like to reassure all members that we will be monitoring all aspects of the above to make certain that the company is fully in compliance with all provisions of the collective agreement.

We will continue to update you as we learn more of the Company’s plans.

In Solidarity,

Ken White
Chairperson, Bargaining Committee
