Jazz CSA/ACS Members: Update Newfoundland Base Closure

Jazz CSA/ACS Members: Update Newfoundland Base Closure

June 19, 2025 at 10:16 AM

This is an important update regarding the ongoing dispute with Jazz Aviation LP concerning the base closure in Newfoundland and capacity reduction, for which Unifor has filed grievances.

On August 30, 2024, Arbitrator Tom Hodges issued an award rejecting the employer’s preliminary objection regarding the arbitrability of the grievances. He also referred a jurisdictional question to the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB).

Subsequently, on November 21, 2024, the CIRB dismissed the Section 65 referral made under the arbitrator’s award dated June 25, 2024. With this decision, the CIRB returned the matter to the arbitrator for adjudication, confirming that the grievances should proceed.

The file has now been transferred to Arbitrator Mark Wright. The arbitration hearings will resume on July 10, 2025, in Toronto.

We appreciate your continued patience and support. We will keep you informed as further developments arise.
