Jazz CSA/ACS: Navigating Negotiations

Jazz CSA/ACS: Navigating Negotiations

August 17, 2012 at 1:45 PM

On July 30th and 31st your bargaining committee, district chairpersons, vice chairpersons and invited guests met in Toronto to start preparing for the upcoming round of negotiations. During these two days the committee worked diligently with the leadership to bring forth the plans for continuous communication during the bargaining process. With improved communication practices and technologies we can assure you that we will maintain an open line of discussion and keep you informed as negotiations progress.

On August 1st the committee presented the first edition of Bargaining dialogue which outlined the key components to successful negotiations. As our collective agreement is quickly approaching the expiry date, we created and presented a membership survey with the first edition of Bargaining dialogue that can be filled out by hand or electronically via the CAW Local 2002 web site (deadline for returning surveys is August 24th). The survey consists of two parts; the first is to give the bargaining committee a better understanding and the priority of different issues that are a concern to the member ship. The second part of the survey is to prioritize important issues that should be negotiated at the bargaining table.

On September 12th your bargaining committee will prioritize the results of the surveys which will be communicated with Jazz district chairpersons at a meeting scheduled in Toronto on September 13th. Following this meeting district chairpersons will return to their bases along with "Fair Deal” bracelets for all members and a booklet on the process of collective bargaining which will assist in understanding the overall process.

Attached/below are the dates and locations for the upcoming base visits. The base visits are to advise the results of the surveys and to make the membership aware of the issues that will be addressed at the table. We strongly encourage every member to attend.

NOTE: The time is running out for you to submit your survey (August 24th). Survey submissions will not be accepted during the base visits so make sure you fill one in and return it as soon as possible.

Your bargaining committee is looking forward to the challenge of negotiations.

We are only as strong as ‘you’ the membership makes us.
Together we are strong, divided we fall.
