On Thursday, November 28, the employer agreed to postpone the SWN implementation to February 1, 2025 until the union can have further discussion.
As per the Unifor-Jazz Collective Bargaining Agreement, the employer may be able to assign shifts to part-time employees. Either during preferential bid and/or during adhoc call outs for non-discretionary shifts (such as sickness, etc.).
The forcing of shifts has historically been completed by phoning the most junior eligible employees and informing them of the force. The change that the employer will now be implementing, is that SWN will also be used to advise that a shift has been assigned to the employee.
As we communicated on November 13, your Unifor bargaining committee was not in favour of this new process. As stated above, the employer has agreed to postpone the implementation until February 1, 2025, which will give us time to have further discussions and review how the SWN application will impact all of us.
We invite all members to share their concerns with their respective district chairperson or vice chairperson.
Additionally, since this is an important concern to part time employees, your Unifor bargaining committee and elected leadership has scheduled a Zoom meeting for Wednesday, December 4 from 1300 to 1400 Eastern Time where we will discuss the specifics of the SWN application.
