On April 19th the CAW was to provide both Arbitrator Tom Hodges and the
employer – Jazz Aviation – its brief and relevant case law as outlined in the
original timeline for the mediation process. Prior to this date, the CAW
requested a one-week extension from Mr. Hodges moving the April 19 deadline to
April 26 which the Arbitrator graciously approved. As such, the CAW submitted
its brief on April 26. The extension moved all subsequent dates back an
additional week. On May 10th the Company provided their brief to the Arbitrator
and CAW. Finally, the Union submitted its closing reply to the parties today,
May 17, 2013.
The Arbitrator is now in receipt of all the relevant information and
documentation to make a ruling. It is the discretion of the Arbitrator to issue
an award after reviewing all information provided to him. This will also include
content from the April 26th and 27th arbitration hearing, along with the written
briefs received per the above dates.
The CAW has no control as to when Mr. Hodges will issue his award, but the
CAW is confident that the membership will be patient and respect due process.
The bargaining committee will further advise the membership as soon as they are
in receipt of Arbitrator Hodges's award.
