Jazz Customer & Aircraft Service Members: Update on Newfoundland and Labrador base closure

Jazz Customer & Aircraft Service Members: Update on Newfoundland and Labrador base closure

March 6, 2025 at 4:30 PM

This is an update to the ongoing base closure and capacity reduction dispute with Jazz Aviation LP, where Unifor has filed grievances.

As communicated on August 30, 2024, Arbitrator Tom Hodges issued an Award rejecting the employer’s preliminary objection regarding the arbitrability of the grievances and referred a question to the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB).

By a decision dated November 21, 2024, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (the “CIRB”) dismissed the Section 65 referral made pursuant to the arbitrator award dated June 25, 2024. By that decision, the CIRB has sent the grievances back to the arbitrator to adjudicate. It is now on the parties to resume the grievance proceedings.

We will keep you updated as the legal process unfolds and upcoming dates are confirmed.
