Local 2002 congratulates Jim Sofonoff on his appointed as CARs Representative

"The Canadian Aviation Regulations are a compilation of regulatory requirements designed to enhance safety and the competitiveness of the Canadian aviation industry. They correspond to the broad areas of aviation which Transport Canada, Civil Aviation is mandated to regulate (e.g. personnel licensing, airworthiness, commercial air services, etc.)." – Transport Canada


As a CARs Representative, Jim’s duties and responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Attend CARAC, and Transport Canada meetings to represent theparticular set of interest of the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers
     
  • Liaise and network with other interest groups to influence how regulations are written by Transport Canada
     
  • Become a resource for the President and front line officers for all regulatory matters with regards to the Canadian Air Regulations
     
  • Work with the Jazz quality department to ensure that members are not solicited to compromise quality standards
     
  • Educate members on any issues or proposed changes to thepresent Canadian Air Regulations that may directly affect therole of aircraft maintenance engineers in the workplace
     
  • Participate as a member of the Canadian Aviation RegulationAdvisory Council (CARAC) which would allow the individual topropose and make changes to existing and new Canadian Aviation Regulations language
     
  • Other duties assigned by the President
