Calling on ALL Unifor Local 2002 Political Activists!

March 31, 2025 at 9:34 AM

The writ has dropped, and now we have a clear mandate—our work is cut out for us. We must elect worker-friendly candidates and send strong worker advocates to Ottawa.

Our Local 2002 Political Action Committee met virtually on March 20 to discuss the critical lobbying efforts leading up to the writ drop. Unifor votes Coordinators from across the country have been busy meeting with MPs to ask the tough questions, particularly around how they plan to address Trump’s tariffs and safeguard Canadian jobs and industries.

During our discussion, we focused on several key issues:
  • Reinvesting in Our Domestic Economy: How to create sustainable growth within Canada.
  • Sector-Specific Industrial Strategies: Supporting vital industries and job creation.
  • Employment Insurance Reforms: We need to improve access to EI benefits, make qualifying rules more accessible, and provide enhanced income support to offset lost wages.
We also reviewed the Protect Canadian Jobs campaign and how our members can actively participate in the Elbows Up and Buy Canadian First movements.

As we prepare for the upcoming Federal Election on April 28, we’re encouraging all members to get involved. If you would like a member of the Unifor votes team to speak at your membership meetings—either in person or via Zoom—please reach out to me. We’ll discuss Unifor's political strategy and how we can drive forward the change we need.

This election is crucial. We need to vote for candidates who will stand up to Trump and, more importantly, put workers first. It’s a critical moment, and we must elect a government that will protect Canadian jobs and help build a strong, fair economy for all workers.
