The Local 2002 Executive Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Harold Bateman as Assistant to the Local 2002 President. A vacancy was declared for this position when Denise Cochrane – former Assistant to the Local 2002 President – moved on to become a Staff Representative with the Unifor National union.
Harold brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to his new role as Assistant to the President at Unifor Local 2002. With a proven history in union leadership, Harold has led collective bargaining efforts, including securing crucial work-from-home language with Air Canada in 2022, and has expertly handled both full and rapid arbitration cases. His dedication to building Unifor’s membership is evident in his active engagement in organizing drives and political campaigns, including successful efforts at a First Nation’s casino in Saskatchewan. Harold’s leadership has shaped local union activism, from representing nearly 2,500 members in the Central Region with Air Canada to championing transparency and unity within Unifor. His background also highlights his role as a mentor for upcoming leaders, ensuring a commitment to equity and transparent decision-making throughout the union.
An effective communicator and accomplished organizer, Harold has demonstrated his commitment to social justice, furthering Unifor’s mission both locally and nationally through councils and conventions. This extensive experience, combined with his technical and organizational skills, makes him an invaluable asset in advancing Unifor’s principles and objectives.
With a firm commitment to the membership, he is keen on bringing his leadership competencies to the Local. I am confident that Harold is the ideal match for this position and will be a notable asset to the Local.
