Lana wins!

Greetings Everyone,

On Wednesday August 10, 2022 we have had an exciting and historic day of elections at the National Constitutional Convention in Toronto. There were three candidates running for the position of President. You have likely already heard the news in the media, but here are all the results:

  • Lana Payne
    National President (Newly Elected)

  • Len Poirier
    Secretary Treasurer (Newly Elected)

  • Jennifer Murray
    Atlantic Regional Director (Newly Elected)

  • Naureen Rizvi
    Ontario Regional Director (Re-elected)

  • Gavin McGarrigle
    Western Regional Director (Re-elected)

You can imagine that when you get 900 plus delegates together from hundreds of locals representing dozens of sectors, all in one room to elect the top leadership of our National Union that there is no shortage of strong opinions, high energy and of course passion.

I am so proud of our Union. All three candidates that were running for President said the same thing; Once the election is over, we must unite behind the new president... and that is exactly what happened. When Lana Payne won, all of the leadership stood in a standing ovation chanting "SOLIDARITY!"

Delegates will be leaving Unifor Convention on Friday re-energized to continue fighting the fight and representing our members.

In Solidarity,

Tammy Moore
Unifor 2002 President
