Dear Retired Workers of Local 2002,
We are pleased to inform you that Unifor Local 2002 has officially established a
Retired Workers Chapter to ensure continued representation and advocacy for our retired members. The creation of this chapter reflects the union’s commitment to recognizing the valuable contributions of retirees and addressing the unique concerns that come with retirement.
Recently, retirees participated in an online election, resulting in the election of a Chairperson and two of the four required regional positions. However, we still have two vacant regional representative positions for Ontario and Atlantic Canada, which we are eager to fill.
The elected Chairperson of the Retired Workers Chapter will serve as a full member of the Local 2002 Executive Board, with the ability to
voice and
vote on matters impacting the union. This role is crucial, as the Chairperson will bring the unique perspectives and concerns of retirees from across Canada to the forefront. This direct representation will ensure that retirement issues are well-understood and considered during union deliberations and bargaining with employers, safeguarding the interests of both current and future retirees.
In addition to representation on the Executive Board, the Retired Workers Chapter will focus on developing and advancing initiatives that benefit our retirees. Among the topics being explored are
pensions, healthcare access (e.g., free prostate cancer testing),
housing, free public transportation, and lobbying governments for improvements in these and other critical areas. The elected members of the Chapter will work closely with retirees to identify and pursue additional issues of importance at both the local and regional levels.
We highly encourage you to engage with the Retired Workers Chapter and share your thoughts, concerns, and suggestions on how we can be most effective in supporting retirees and their communities. Your input is invaluable, and it will help shape the Chapter’s future priorities. Please reach out to us by emailing
[email protected] or by visiting our website at
unifor2002.org. Providing your contact information will also allow you to participate in upcoming elections, surveys, and other important matters.
Together, we can ensure that our collective voice continues to make a difference for all Unifor Local 2002 retirees.
In Solidarity,
Retired Workers of Unifor Local 2002 Executive Committee
